Moissanite – The gemstone from the stars

Moissanite is not just a gemstone – it is a modern, sustainable alternative to diamonds with a fascinating history and exceptional optical properties.

The discovery of a star fragment

Moissanite was discovered in 1893 by the French chemist Henri Moissan in a meteorite crater. Initially, he mistook the sparkling crystals for diamonds, but it was later determined that they were a completely different mineral: silicon carbide (SiC). Due to its rarity in nature, moissanite is now produced in state-of-the-art laboratories – ethically, sustainably, and with unparalleled purity.

Moissanites are often compared to diamonds because they are hardly distinguishable from diamonds to the naked eye, and only experts can see the differences.

Price & Quality

Glacier & Aurealis Moissanites exhibit impressive clarity (VVS1 – very, very small inclusions), intense brilliance, excellent cut and D color grades. – comparable to the best diamonds at a fraction of the diamond price.

A radiance that surpasses a diamond

Moissanite is a unique stone with its own beauty, surpassing that of a diamond.

Moissanite is known for its unique fire and sparkle. With twice the refractive index and a higher refractive index (2.65 - 2.69) than diamonds (2.42), it reflects more light and creates a spectacular play of colors.

  • Hardness: 9.25 on the Mohs scale (almost as hard as diamonds at 10/10)
  • Brilliance: Higher than that of a diamond
  • Fire: More intense than in diamonds – spectacular light reflections
  • Clarity: Each stone comes in clarity grade VVS1 (very, very small inclusions)
  • Color grades: Colorless Glacier & Aurealis moissanites have a color grade of "D". Gemstones classified as D are completely colorless and are considered the most valuable stones.
  • Durability: Moissanites are very durable gemstones due to their high hardness. Unlike cubic zirconia, for example, they do not lose their clarity over time.

Sustainability & Ethics

Unlike mined diamonds, moissanite is produced in a laboratory – without environmentally damaging mining or ethical conflicts. Its production requires fewer resources, involves no forced labor, and minimizes the ecological footprint. A gemstone you can buy with a clear conscience!

Glacier & Aurealis offers only the finest quality moissanite: D color grades, VVS1 clarity, and excellent cut – comparable to the best diamonds. Discover our latest collection. Sustainable luxury, crafted to last a lifetime.
